Utah State football player Andre Seldon Jr. dies in apparent cliff-diving accident
Football player Andre Seldon Jr. of Utah State passed away, the school said on Saturday night, apparently from a cliff-diving mishap.
The university reports that the Utah Department of Public Safety’s dive team found Seldon’s body around 9:05 p.m. MT. Earlier in the day, a search was launched for a man who had been spotted jumping off cliffs at the Porcupine Reservoir and had not surfaced from the water.
Diana Sabau, the athletic director, released a statement saying, “The sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr. has devastated our Utah State University Athletics family.” “We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”
In 2024, Seldon was scheduled to play his first and fifth collegiate football seasons at Utah State. The native of Michigan attended the University of Michigan for his first two seasons of college before completing his final two seasons at New Mexico State.
Utah State interim coach Nate Dreiling released a statement saying, “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own.” “Andre was an amazing person and teammate; I can attest to this having had a prior experience with him at New Mexico State. We are sending Andre’s family our deepest sympathies and prayers as we join them in mourning this amazing loss.”
