BREAKING: Dallas Mavericks Signed A Versatile Forward From New Orleans Pelicans Into Their Ranks

What will this signing mean for possibly retaining Derrick Jones Jr.?

Mavericks Sign Naji Marshall to Three-Year Deal

The Dallas Mavericks have made their first move in free agency, signing New Orleans Pelicans forward Naji Marshall to a three-year, $27 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. While there were ongoing discussions with Klay Thompson and Derrick Jones Jr., the Mavericks opted to secure the versatile 3&D wing.

Marshall’s Fit and Stats

Marshall, a 26-year-old from Xavier, has spent his entire four-year career with the Pelicans. Last season, he averaged 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, shooting a career-high 38.7% from three-point range. At 6’7″ and 220 pounds, he brings size and defensive versatility to the Mavericks.

Financial Details and Remaining Moves

Marshall’s contract will use part of Dallas’ mid-level exception, leaving about $4 million available. It’s uncertain if Jones Jr., whom Mavericks GM Nico Harrison identified as a priority, would accept a 1+1 deal with the remaining exception amount. Additionally, Dallas is still exploring a possible sign-and-trade for Klay Thompson. Should that fall through, they might consider a sign-and-trade for Marshall if necessary.

Impact on the Team

Marshall is expected to benefit from playing alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, likely getting more open looks and opportunities to showcase his shooting and defensive skills.

Welcome to Dallas

Official signings can’t occur until July 6th, but Marshall is poised to make a significant impact on the Mavericks roster. Welcome to Dallas, Naji Marshall!
