Alexander Zverev’s girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, has taunted the World No. 4 following his first win of the grass-court season. The actress referred to him as a father, tennis master, and comic.

The two have been dating since 2020, and she has always accompanied Zverev to a couple of social events and several of his matches on the ATP tour. In Zverev’s first-round match at the 2024 Halle Open, he defeated Oscar Otte 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.

On Tuesday, Thomalla released a video on her Instagram account that included Zverev speaking to the press during an on-court interview. Teasing the 27-year-old, Thomalla wrote in the caption:

During the on-court interview, Zverev acknowledged his satisfaction over qualifying for the second round and mentioned that it was difficult facing Otte.

“A week ago, I was playing on clay still basically. He made it very tough for me, no rhythm at all,” Zverev remarked in his on-court interview. “That’s how grass-court tennis is sometimes and I’m just pleased with the win. He did made it incredibly difficult for me, so credit to him. I’m definitely thrilled that I won and hopefully it’s going to be a level above in the next match,” he said.

Zverev has had a spectacular season, winning his sixth ATP Masters title at the 2024 Italian Open against Nicolás Jarry. The German also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, Los Cabos Open, and Miami Open, as well as the final of the French Open, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz 3-6, 6-2, 7-5, 1-6, 2-6.

Alexander Zverev will face Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the second round of the Halle Open on Wednesday. The World No. 4 kicked off his grass-court season on Tuesday with a triumph against countryman Oscar Otte in the first round.

Lorenzo Sonego, who overcame Miomir Kecmanović in his first-round match on Tuesday, will be meeting Zverev for the fourth time in his career.

Their first match occurred in the second round of the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, where Zverev emerged victorious. Zverev won again the following time they played off, which was in the quarterfinal of the 2023 Dubai Open. The German then secured his third consecutive victory against Sonego when he defeated him in the round-robin stage of the 2024 United Cup, where Germany defeated Italy.

Alexander Zverev’s 2023 grass-court season also began with the Halle Open, where he overcame Dominic Thiem, Denis Shapovalov, and Nicolás Jarry before being eliminated in the quarterfinal by the eventual winner, Alexander Bublik.
