Drake Maye puts pen to paper on a ‘$36.6m rookie deal with the Patriots… including $23.5m bonus’ for No. 3 overall pick
Drake Maye, a rookie quarterback, has signed a $36.63 million contract with the Patriots, which includes a $23.46 million signing bonus. The deal is completely guaranteed.
The franchise signs Maye, the third overall choice in this year’s NFL Draft, to a four-year deal with a five-year option.
Three years after the team drafted Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick, Maye takes over in New England. Jones was a standout rookie who led the team into the postseason and made the Pro Bowl, but he has since regressed.
In March, Jones was dealt to the Jaguars.
Prior to his first season in the fall of next year, he was spotted practicing with his new squad last Monday.
Maye will be looking to turn around the Patriots, who concluded last season with a 4-13 record.
With just 13.9 points per game, New England also placed second-to-last in terms of scoring per game.
After the season, the team fired iconic head coach Bill Belichick and elevated inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to the position of head coach.
On September 8, the Patriots play the Bengals in their season opener.
